Keepin' it real
Here is attempt number one at getting a Christmas Card picture taken. Obviously we are going to give it another try, but don't be surprised if this is as good as it gets. This picture may adorn your refrigerator for the next year.
But . . . I have been thinking. This picture is real! How many of us really have perfect kids who sit nice and smile for the camera? Good for you if you do. We don't. The dog doesn't even cooperate.
I have been trying to start a new trend with my friends. Why do we clean our houses when we visit each other? All it ever does is make me feel bad about the mess I have at home. Next time you invite me over, don't clean. My sister doesn't - oh that wasn't nice. Sorry. I love her anyway and still go to her house. AND I DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT MY HOUSE! Thanks Mamadala!

I love this picture! I think you should definitely use it for the X-Mas card! You all look genuinely happy!

I loved the picture. I say use that and be proud of your normal family. However, this is coming from the chica whose family used a horrible posed-picture with a timer on a digital camera. I believe you charitably offered to take our next family picture because it was so bad. And we were even all sitting and smiling into the camera!
As for cleaning the house...clean it AFTER everyone leaves. That way you don't have to clean twice. People know we live in our homes. I never subscribed to my mom's thinking which is erase or hide any hint that we lived there - toothbrush on the counter, beds unmade (who makes their bed everyday? I haven't since I went to college 10 years ago. Seriously.), cat (or dog) hair on the floor, dishes in the sink, pillow out of place.
Keep it real for me Thursday.

Nice nothing. You were just "keeping it real." What an apt title. The picture really was horrible. We'll have to book you this year as our photographer.

I can't believe you've had this post up for almost a month (since 10/11) and I'm just seeing it now.
Anyway, my motto is, "image is everything," so I am proposing a Christmas card in which all the boys are wearing tuxedos and the girls formal dresses. That way people will understand that we are a nice, well-behaved family and not just some unruly hooligans.

I didn't notice the date - that is when I started this post (uploaded the picture). It only took me a month to write it. I am pathetic.
The best Christmas card picture I ever got was from Eric's friend Jim Shanesy. The picture was of his two sons sitting on Santa's lap and screaming bloody murder. It made me laugh and I liked it 100 times better than those smarmy letters some people send that brag up all their kids' accomplishments. Everyone's kid is a genius anyway, right? I prefer the dysfunction. Much funnier.
OK, I can take it. If I had to clean every time you came over, I would be cleaning all the time!! (I like that you come over a lot - don't get me wrong.) I used to tell my friends that their comfortably messy homes made me feel good. Hope that didn't offend them. And I had a sign at one time that read: "Please excuse our house, but we live here."
You picture is cute. Wish you could see Roo's face, but people remember cards like that, and most people know what you look like anyway, right? I think you should go with that one.

Actually it has been officially 2 months since your last blog. It was cute but you can only rest on your laurels so long.

This is one of the cutest pictures I have seen! You look like you are having a great time! I like your advice about not cleaning the house. I don't think you have seen mine clean in a long time. We're always so busy with the kids.

My first time here and I think this was a great post about keeping things real. Seriously, why DO we go to so much trouble (pictures, our house, and the like) to pose ourselves off as other than normal? Everyone who has kids knows what it's like just to survive the day! Let alone prepping for company...and then cleaning up after THEY leave. It's nuts!
BTW, I absolutely adore the picture! I think it's got a lot of character, and I betcha that all the people you send it to will be so jealous knowing how much fun taking that pix actually was - instead of working so hard to pose everybody perfectly.
